Plumbing service in Ontario
Ontario is two cities in one. There's the original Model Colony around Euclid Avenue, laid out in the 1880s, and there's Ontario Ranch, the new master-planned community growing on the city's south side. Older homes and new ones
Ontario's median home was built in 1980, and about half its homes were built before then, according to Census data. About 21% were built in 2000 or later.
- Older neighborhoods can have aging galvanized water lines and clay or cast-iron sewer lines. Look for low pressure, rusty water, slow drains and backups. See repiping and sewer line repair.

Ontario's water
Most of Ontario gets its water from the Ontario Municipal Utilities Company. Parts of the city are served by Cucamonga Valley Water District and, in some unincorporated areas, Monte Vista Water District. The utility's 2025 water quality report shows:
- Local groundwater, about 64% of the supply, averaging 124 mg/L of hardness (82 to 150)
- Imported water averaging 91
- Purchased groundwater averaging 137 to 177, depending on the source

The city replaced more than 3 miles of water main in a citywide project it finished in October 2024. The pipe from the meter to your house is still yours to maintain.
