THE GREAT DEBATE: SNAKING OR HYDRO-JETTING?
A clogged drain is a major pain in the butt. Fortunately, plumbers can fix the problem through snaking or hydro-jetting. Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of each method.
Hydro-Jetting
By spraying powerful streams of water down the drain, hydro-jetting can quickly break open a clog. Hydro-jetting is excellent for commercial and residential use.
Pros: The strong water pressure clears grease, hair, and other debris with ease. Because hydro-jetting doesn’t involve the use of any toxic chemicals, it’s a safer choice than chemical drain cleaners which can corrode your plumbing. (More on that later.)
Cons: Hydro-jetting is not always an option. Older pipes can rupture under the intense water pressure. That’s why plumbers always inspect the condition of your system beforehand.
Snaking
Snaking involves the use of an auger, which is designed to reach deep into a drain.
Pros: Although snaking is one of the oldest ways to clear a clog, it still remains among the most effective. If your pipes aren’t strong enough to handle the stress of hydro-jetting, your plumber will likely recommend snaking.
Cons: While snaking is reliable and safe, it doesn’t always work for big clogs. It will help clear a path, but it won’t thoroughly clean the interior of a pipe. That makes snaking more of a temporary solution.
A Word of Caution about Chemical Drain Cleaners
While you always have the option of using a chemical drain cleaner, we strongly advise against it. These products are made with corrosive ingredients, which can damage your pipes with frequent use. You should also consider the fact that chemical drain cleaners can ruin your home’s septic damage.
Even worse, chemical drain cleaners are dangerous to your health. Simply breathing in the fumes can cause respiratory problems. Parents have to be especially concerned about keeping these toxic products away from their children and pets.
Bottom line: Got a clog? We’re happy to diagnose your plumbing system to determine which option -- snaking or hydro-jetting -- is best for you. To schedule an appointment with Rooter Warrior, call (951) 476-1627.
